Mary Helen Maddelina

Mary Helen Maddelina departed this world on September 2, 2020, at home in Branson, Missouri. Mary was a tenacious soul who persevered after a lengthy illness. She left a large footprint in the lives of those who loved her as she was a strong, outspoken, and gifted woman.

Mary was born March 29, 1942 in Glendale, California. She graduated Saint Andrew’s Catholic High School where she received top honors. Shortly thereafter, met the love of her life, Larry Maddelina, and married September 3rd, 1960. Mary & Larry raised their three children: Tony, Tammy, and Tim in Southern California. Mary was a wife, mother, and homemaker, yet accomplished so much more. All who knew Mary were amazed at her artistic abilities. She not only sewed clothing but created patterns and designs; baby items were her specialty. She knitted, crocheted, quilted, made shadow boxes, and created art with liquid embroidery. Mary made all different types of dolls sketching their faces, creating hair, life-like features and sewed detailed outfits. Her lovely oil paintings are cherished by her family. There was not an art or craft she didn’t excel in when she had a desire to master something new.

Mary was a fabulous cook, making jellies, jams, breads, and cookies along with homemade ethnic foods, but specialized in Italian dishes, making everything from scratch. Most of all Mary was an outstanding cake designer and decorator. She honed her craft to the degree of professional and was sought after by many who requested her instruction. She blessed her family and friends with elaborate specialty designs and gorgeous wedding cakes. After moving to Branson, Missouri, in the 1990s, she was recruited as the chief Wilton instructor at the local Michael’s. Mary enjoyed teaching, and all were in awe of her art and skills. Mary donated much of what she created to friends and others in need.

Later in years, Mary slowed down due to illness, which became a frustration as her mind was sharp and she had a desire to create and help others. Mary’s love for family was always present. Despite her physical limitations, she continued her thoughtfulness through acts of kindness.

Mary is deeply mourned by her devoted husband of sixty years, Larry Maddelina; her children: Anthony and Rhonda Maddelina of La Quinta, California, Tammy Maddelina Ledbetter of Branson, Missouri, and Tim and Liz Maddelina of Branson, Missouri; grandchildren: Megan, Nicole, Michael, Jessica, Will, Nicholas and Mark; brother, Steve Strange of Middleton, Idaho; and sister, Kathleen Beard of Idaho. Mary leaves behind extended family and friends in multiple states who will mourn her passing and miss her immensely as will her furry companion, Peachas.

Memorial services for immediate family were held privately as requested. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.cremationsoftheozarks.com.
