Marvin Howard Dooms was born in rural Douglass County, Missouri, on June 15, 1928. He departed this life March 7, 2019, in Hollister, Missouri. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Fay Dooms; son, Gary Dooms; brother-in-law, Hanford Payne (Betty), sister-in-law, Eulah Payne (Robert); nephew, Kenton Payne (Ava); nieces: Patricia Barger (Don) and Marsha Harter (Jim); several great nephews and nieces; godson, Justin Roller (Constance); adopted family, Annette Wilson (Tague); special cousin, Trilba Coble (Vernon); and special fishing friend, Larry Ham (Pam). He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Oliver Collins; brother-in-law, Robert Payne; nephew David Payne; and niece, Sherry Langford (Tom).

Marvin owned and operated a barber shop located at Westport and Main in Kansas City for many years and later co-owned Homestead Realty in Harrisonville, Missouri, with his very good friend Obie Carl. After retiring to Hollister, he sold real estate for Coldwell Bankers.

Marvin was an avid fisherman and for years could be found at Bennett Springs on opening day. He had several Lunker badges (trout caught over 3 pounds) which he displayed on his favorite fishing hat. After retirement, he spent many happy hours in his boat on Lake Taneycomo or Table Rock Lake. He was the Missouri State dry fly-casting champion two consecutive years in a row during the early 40s.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Harrisonville, Missouri where he served as a member of the Vestry for 11 years, many of them as Junior Warden. After retiring to Hollister, he moved his membership to the Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a Mason, a Shriner, and past Worthy Patron, OES.

The family wishes to say thank you to Hospice Compassus, who took such wonderful care of Marvin during his long illness. A memorial service will be held at a later date. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.cremtiaonsoftheozarks.com
