January 22, 1962 - September 7, 2018
Age: 56
Residence: Mountain Grove, MO
Formerly of: Santa Monica, CA

Diana (Di) Sue Thornhill Yarber, age 56, passed away on September 7, 2018, at her home in Mtn. Grove surrounded by her family. She was born on January 22, 1962, in Santa Monica, California. Her parents Farris and Judy Thornhill relocated their young family to Missouri in 1963. She spent her younger years playing with her brother and four sisters. It was often said that you could usually find Diane climbing a tree. Diane attended school in Mtn. Grove and graduated in 1980. She started her family with her first daughter soon after. Di was united in marriage to Kent Yarber on June 15, 1984, and together had three daughters. Di was a dedicated stay-at-home wife and mother. Di’s greatest joy was her daughters and grandchildren. Some of the happiest memories with them were made at the lake. Buck Creek was her happy place and set the standard for all other campgrounds. Setting up camp was the one event that the normally quiet, laidback, reserved Di became a take charge, all-about-business drill sergeant. She loved listening to the boats skimming the water at night. Di especially loved her quiet time early in the morning sipping cappuccino with her sister Sandy.

When she wasn’t camping or on a “girls’ day” with her sisters, Di was known as a homebody. She loved sitting under a shade tree in her backyard with a glass of sun tea or Mtn. Dew. Di also cared for dozens of other children over the years who she affectionately referred to as her “armpit babies.” It was said of her that “there is no gentler, sweeter, more motherly spirit in this world.” She loved snuggling and caring for babies the best. She left us with a legacy of ‘give patience when you are tried the most, give acceptance when you lack understanding, give forgiveness without exception, and when you think you have nothing left to give, give freely the gift of love.’

Diane was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ruth and Cyril Hagerty of Santa Monica, CA; paternal grandparents, Dulcie and Henley Joyce of Mtn. Grove, MO; Bernie and Alta Mae Thornhill of Mtn. Grove, MO; in-laws, Jane and Max Yarber of Mtn. Grove, MO; nephew, Dusty Guenther of Grovesprings, MO; nieces, Jennifer Alexander and Macy Loveless of Mtn. Grove, MO; many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
