Elroy J. Nelson, age 82, passed away September 12, 2018, in Branson, Missouri. He was born April 25, 1936, to Ed J. and Ellen (Erikson) Nelson of Oakland, Nebraska. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Cremations of the Ozarks.

Elroy graduated from Oakland High School in 1953, then went on to Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, Nebraska. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval reserves serving as a medic aboard ships at the Great Lakes and San Diego, California.

On May 7, 1961, Elroy married Carla Granzow of Eldora, Iowa. Living their first year in Des Moines, Iowa, he worked as an insurance agent for National Travelers Insurance. His natural interest in people worked perfect in this line of work. It was always said, “Elroy never met a stranger.”

In 1962, Elroy and Carla moved to York, Nebraska, where he started his own insurance agency. For 44 years they raised their family in York until he retired in 2006. Starting a new adventure, Elroy and Carla moved to Branson, Missouri, to enjoy their life together. Elroy spent most of his time fishing, hunting, bowling, and golfing. His greatest pleasure was volunteering at Cox Hospital and working with Angel Watch with Hospice. It brought him great joy and enlightenment to be with someone, so they were not alone before meeting our Lord.
