Merlee Keith

The daughter of Raymond and Eva (Simmons) Bennett was born October 7, 1923, in Hickory County, MO.  She grew up in Polk County and attended the Oak Grove #4 school, and graduated from Emma D. High School Goodson, MO.  At the age of 12, she was saved at and baptized into Oak Grove Church by Rev. Lee Penny.  She was united in marriage to David Keith January 7, 1943.  After David’s three years of service in WW II, they moved to a farm north of Huron, MO.

Merlee was an outdoors person, helping with small animals, gardening and loved flowers of all kinds.  She was a stay at home mother for their six children.  She enjoyed sewing, hand-work, piecing quilts, and read many books.

After David’s health failed they moved to Bolivar.  She helped care for him until his passing.  She appreciated the children and neighbors for helping care for David also.  Even though she had no memory of her grandmother, she enjoyed her grandchildren; the front door was always open to the family.  She lived a simple life, and held steadfast in her faith, even at times she felt alone.  She was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and missed friendships due to health reasons.  She appreciated the good care given to her by family and neighbors after being left alone by David’s death.

“Our Lives can’t be measured by our final years.”

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband David; a grandson Raymond Keith; two daughter in-laws: Stella Keith, and Mary Keith; a great great granddaughter Bailey Bennett; a step- granddaughter Lesa Hastings; and a sister Arlene Wilson.

She is survived by her six children: Edsel Keith, Michael Keith, and Joyce Butler and husband Terry all of Bolivar, MO, Gayla Thomas and husband Ross of St. Louis, MO, Kenneth Keith and wife Dawn of Willard, MO, and Michelle Noblett of Urbana, MO; 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren; as well as other relatives, and special friends from CMHCF.
